Ascot

Tom has three booked rides today at Ascot.

2:05 CALL OF THE WILD - Unexposed 5yo who won a bumper and two 2m novice hurdles last season; handicap debut.

Owner - J P McManus - Trainer - Alan King has a 13% strike rate with his hurdlers at Ascot

showing a +18.34

Call Of The Wild, whose target is the big handicap hurdle. Alan added:”He is a progressive horse who won three of his five races last season and lost nothing in defeat when the third at Cheltenham’s April meeting as it was probably one race too many. The plan is go over fences before too long.”

3:15 MAJOR DUNDEE - Same mark as when third in the Scottish National; likely to improve again this season.

Owner - Exors Of The Late Trevor Hemmings - Trainer - Alan King

One of Alan’s big hopes for this winter is Grand National candidate Major Dundee, who reappears in the London Gold Cup Handicap Chase at Ascot.

Alan said:”Major Dundee was an okay hurdler but fences have made a big difference to him. He won his first two, at Fakenham and Bangor, and then after running a solid race to finish second at Newbury, he was a fine third in the Scottish Grand National, especially as that was only his fourth race over fences.

“I am also pleased how well Major Dundee did through the summer. He has strengthened up but he needs a race before his first major target, the Coral Gold Cup (formerly the Hennessy), after which he could go to Warwick for the Classic Chase and possibly have a second trip to Ayr for the Scottish National.”

3:50 LEAVE OF ABSENCE - Just about the best of these in bumpers and is entitled to do well in novice hurdles.

Owners - Richard & Mrs Carol Cheshire - Trainer - Chris Gordon

He was impressive in following up his 7 length bumper win at Kempton by a similar

margin at Newbury in April and only a week later, he finished 3rd in the Grade 2 at

Aintree's Grand National meeting when positively ridden. He is just about the best

of these on bumper form and should run well today on his hurdling debut.
