'He should be very competitive' - can Alan King crown another big day at Newbury with Emitom?

Tom Cannon has three rides for Trainer Alan King at Newbury.

Last 14 days

Wins: 5 Rides: 22(23%)

Won over C&D last March and runner-up on two of his three starts this season; in the mix.

Owners - The Spero Partnership Ltd.

This is a race that Alan King seems to target. He saddled Talkischeap to win it in 2018 and has had another four horses placed in the last ten seasons, so he has probably had it in mind to run Emitom for quite some time. The ten-year-old loves it at this course, so it would make sense.

Twice a course winner, including once at the distance, Emitom's only defeat at the track came when two lengths behind Young Butler, who was an intended runner here before the rain, in November.

With Young Butler now unable to pose a threat and Emitom running here after a good second behind last week's Sandown winner Saint Davy at Ludlow last month, that might give him a slight edge.

Drops back in trip and has leading claims judged on Tingle Creek second two starts ago.

Owners - Robert Abrey & Ian Thurtle.

Edwardstone will take his chance in the Grade 2 Game Spirit Chase.

Edwardstone is favourite to beat his four opponents, and Alan explained:”I’ll have to run him as we need to know where we stand with him after his disappointing run at Kempton.

“Clearly, stepping him up to two and a half miles did not work, and he had previously run two decent races this season over two miles. He has done plenty on the gallops since that last run, and now I’ve said enough and it is down to him to do the talking.”

Some promise all three starts but others may have more scope for improvement.

Owners - This Time Next Year Partnership.

Finally, we run I’m A Lumberjack in the bumper, and, while Alan accepts that he has a stiff task in this Listed race, he did run well at Ascot against similar company, so we are hopeful  that he’ll make his presence felt.
