'I didn't like the ground yesterday' - Alan King takes out Edwardstone at Ascot

Just the two rides today for Tom at Ascot.

Ascot putting on 5mm of water in selective areas, last season's Arkle winner Edwardstone has been declared a non-runner due to the going.

The eight-year-old, the winner of five of his eight starts over fences, had been due to run in the Shloer Chase at Cheltenham's November meeting last weekend but was taken out due to conditions.

Trainer Alan King said: "I didn't like the ground yesterday. Betterforeveryone, the horse I ran in the last race there, was jarred up this morning and seeing how sore he was made my decision quite easy.

"I know Chris [Stickels, clerk of the course] has put a bit of water on but I couldn't run Edwardstone. We've only had a handful of runners at Ascot this season and most of them have come back with a problem."

On conditions, Stickels said on Saturday morning: "It's good to soft, good in places and conditions are very similar to what they were at the start of racing yesterday."
