Kingmaker Chase

Edwardstone, as good a two-mile novice as we have had at Barbury for many years, will be missing our local meeting and instead taking in his prep for the Cheltenham Festival in the Kingmaker Chase at Warwick.

Edwardstone, who has won all his three completed races over fences, including the Grade 1 Henry VIII Novices’ Chase at Sandown, is second-favourite for the Arkle behind the Willie Mullins-trained Blue Lord.

Three times successful in the Kingmaker, including with Voy Por Ustedes in 2006, Alan has always had a soft spot for Warwick and thinks the Midlands track is the perfect place for Edwardstone’s dress-rehearsal for Cheltenham.

He said: “Edwardstone has already won over the course, and since he won the Wayward Lad at Kempton over Christmas he has done everything we have asked of him at home. He schooled very well on Monday and is very much on course for Warwick.”
