The Doyen Chief in the novice hurdle at Taunton

Tom Cannon has four rides today at Taunton for Trainer Alan King.

Alan said:” I think a lot of The Doyen Chief, who is a fine big horse who is settling better in his races now. He went close first time out at Ludlow and then did the job at Market Rasen, where he only had to be pushed out to win comfortably.

“However, he never seemed happy in an novice handicap on the Winter Million card at Lingfield last time (unseating when beaten three out), and I think going back to a right-handed track might suit him better.

Work to do when he unseated 16 days ago; previous form makes him a leading contender.

Owners - Masterson Holdings Limited.

Showed some ability in his two bumpers but remote at 20-1 in both his hurdle races.

Owner - J Law.

Shaped well early last year; weak 11-1, soundly beaten on handicap debut in December.

Owner - Mrs J P E Cunningham.

No match for the winner last June in her first bumper and tailed off on soft in November.

Owner - G Kennington.
