Versatile Tritonic switches to fences at Wincanton

Tom Cannon has three rides today at Wincanton, for Trainer Alan King.

12:55 TRITONIC

useful-looking gelding: useful on Flat, stays 2½m, shaped better than distance beaten suggets in Cesarewitch last time: useful handicap hurdler: 22/1, step back in right direction when 7¼ lengths fourth of 20 to Fennor Cross at Aintree final start in 2022/23 (lost shoe): stays 2½m: acts on soft and good to firm going: tried in cheekpieces.

Alan has always loved seeing how one of his better hurdlers copes with the switch to fences, and on Thursday he launches both Tritonic and Hall Lane over the larger obstacles.

Tritonic, already six times a winner, three on the Flat and three over timber, begins his new career in an interesting four-runner novices handicap chase at Wincanton.

He was by far the best of this quartet over hurdles, and Alan is looking forward to see him change codes. He said:”Tritonic has been a star for us and he finished third at Royal Ascot this year as well as running well for a long way until his stamina gave out in the Cesarewitch.

“He was also a smart hurdler, and he has been schooling well over fences, which is encouraging, while the fact that the ground has been drying out is also a plus.”

Hall Lane kick-starts his new career in the novices handicap chase at Market Rasen, Things did not go right for him after he made a winning hurdling debut at Wetherby last autumn, and, though his reappearance was delayed because of a bruised foot, he has been working well and is ready to resume. He can be quite nervous, so, hopefully, Daryl Jacob can get him relaxed early on in this six-runner race.

12:30 ROCKWITHTHETIMES

£50,000 5-y-o: half-brother to 3 winners, including smart hurdler/useful chaser Movewiththetimes (15f-23f winner) and smart 2¼m hurdle winner Venture Capital (both by Presenting), stayed 2¾m: dam unraced half-sister to fair hurdler/smart chaser (winner up to 2½m) Horner Woods: off mark in Irish points at second attempt (Nov 2022).

14:40 CALL OF THE WILD

tall gelding: chasing type: bumper winner: fairly useful winning form over hurdles: off 3 months, 16/1, fell 4 out in conditionals/amateurs handicap won by Punctuation at Aintree final start in 2022/23: hasn't taken to chasing (tailed off completed start): unproven beyond 17f: acts on heavy going.
