Wincanton Boxing Day

Tom is set for a busy day! with seven booked rides at Wincanton.

12:18 FINEST VIEW Highly tried on last two bumper starts; possibilities back at an easier level. Trainer Alan King Finest View is the first of the Wincanton quintet to run when she makes her jumping debut in the mares novice hurdle.

“She probably found the company too hot in a couple of Listed bumpers, but she has schooled well and I hope she’ll take to hurdling,” said Alan.

12:53 FANTASTIC LADY Should still have more to offer; interesting on chase debut,

Trainer Nicky Henderson, She got bogged down on the very soft ground at Warwick on her final run last season so the good ground here will be perfect. She’s a lovely big mare who is built to make a chaser and her schooling has been very good so I rate her chance quite highly.

1:28 GEORGE BANCROFT Won two 1m4f Flat handicaps; won hurdle debut; unseated early latest; of interest, Trainer Charlie Longsdon. He is a fun type of Juvenile hurdler who will won on the flat for us before winning his juvenile hurdle debut. He has taken to jumping very well, has plenty of size and scope and it looks like he will stay the 2m very well. You need a good jumper for the juvenile hurdle races, and he will be out early in the season to pick up a couple of wins and one of the Cheltenham juveniles will be the aim this season.

2:03 HIGHWAY ONE O ONE On the downgrade; needs to be revitalised by first-time headgear, Trainer Chris Gordon, has dropped down the weights of late having not shown much this season thus far, hoping the the first time cheekpieces will spark a revival.

2:38 POTTERMAN Big 3m5f chase win in April; best efforts all on good; first hurdles start since May 2019. Trainer Alan King, “Rain would also be against Potterman, who switches back to hurdles for the Pertemps qualifier. He was second in last month’s Badger Beer Chase and then found the ground too soft in the Ladbroke Trophy at Newbury.

“He’s a bit lower in the handicap over hurdles than he is over fences, while he not eligible for too many chases just now, the exception being the Rowland Meyrick at Wetherby, where the ground would be too testing.

3:13 THE UNIT Losing run goes back to 2018; fallen long way in weights; fair third latest.

Trainer Alan King, “Another who won’t want the ground to deteriorate is The Unit, who was pulled out of Fakenham last week when the ground went soft. He was dropped 4lb for his comeback third at Kempton and has come on for the run, but the weather will be a big factor for him as well.

3:45 FORGET THE WAY Beaten a long way out at Market Rasen 24 days ago; needs significant improvement. Trainer Alan King, “In fact, the same applies to Forget The Way in the bumper. He was disappointing at Market Rasen on his debut, but the track was hit by a blizzard in the morning and by the time it got to his race conditions were pretty shocking. Granted better ground, I’d expect a much better showing as he has worked well since.”
